Blue Star

Gone

Sadly this is no longer on Lincoln High Street as it has been plastered over by builders.

Bridger & Son

Bridger & Sons

I came on to the site after hearing an article on the radio - I was going to send a picture of the ghost sign that I can see from my garden (just across the lane) and here it is - someone got here first.. lol Its a great sign and I'm really glad its on here - I worry that it'll get painted over - it would be such a shame if it disappeared, its a piece of local history, but now its on here and 'preserved' of sorts. And thats a good thing.

Rant's Linen House

You can't really see it on the photo, but the blue section is not actually flush with the sign. It sticks out further than the chimney stack on the right hand side. Though, I guess, the facade may have been remodelled at some point after the painting of the sign. But it seems strange that they would leave it, if that was the case.

Rant's Linen House

That could well be the case and, looking closely, there appears to be the edge of a hyphen before the word Linen so 'BED-LINEN' would fit with the theory.

I wonder whether the blue paint obscures part of the original; could it have started life as "Durrant's Bedlinen Warehouse"?

We have to include a watermark to protect the images and the rights of the photographer. We have tried to make the watermark as faint as possible so that it does not obscure the photo too much, this seems to work for the majority of the photos.
We will be reviewing the gallery on a regular basis and will look again at the watermark. Thanks.

Bosley

why did you have to put your watermarks

right in the middle of the photo, and over the actual advert?

Thanks a whole lot.
