HAT recognises the tremendous value and support that volunteers can offer. Their precious time, skills and enthusiasm continue to help HAT to collect and preserve the UK’s unique advertising heritage and make it available to all for study and research.

HAT needs enthusiastic volunteers to support the work of its professional archive team. As a volunteer you will be provided with the necessary training to carry out your role with confidence and given the opportunity to find out more about HAT’s amazing archive and library collections.

Own transport and packed lunches are essential, due to HAT’s rural location, but HAT provides tea, coffee and biscuits for communal break times and can meet some travelling expenses.

  • HAT offers a friendly, informal and supportive working atmosphere
  • A chance to meet new people

  • An opportunity to gain practical work experience

Career guidance

If you are interested in a career in archives or museums, why not contact us to arrange a temporary work experience or volunteer placement? Working with HAT’s professionally qualified staff, you'll be able to experience the range of jobs that form the work of a busy archive service. Over the years HAT has helped a number of volunteers towards gaining places on post-graduate archive and museum courses and jobs in the heritage sector.

Who can volunteer?

If you've got a day or even two days a week to spare, we could offer you a longer term voluntary placement. Anyone over 18 years can volunteer with us, whether you're a university student, preparing to return to work after a period of absence, unemployed or recently retired and looking for a project to undertake during your available time. HAT is particularly keen to recruit volunteers with data entry experience to help populate our online catalogue.

Where can I volunteer?

Volunteering opportunities are offered on site at The History of Advertising Trust, The Raveningham Centre, Norfolk NR14 6NU.

If you are interested in volunteering at HAT, please write to The Archive Collections Manager eve@hatads.org.uk by email, attaching your CV with the names and contact details of two referees. All placements are subject to a satisfactory interview and references.
