Spottiswoode Dixon and Hunting
History
1903-, London
Spottiswoode Advertising was founded in 1903 but had developed from Spottiswoode Printers, a well-established nineteenth century Fleet Street company. In 1906 it amalgamated with Dixon & Hunting (established in 1893) to form Spottiswoode Dixon & Hunting Ltd (SD&H). S H Benson seems to have been a majority shareholder from 1906 and also had an operational agreement with the agency from 1911. Steeles Advertising Services was taken over in 1910. In 1955 the company reverted to the name Spottiswoode Advertising and amalgamated with Davidson Pearce Berry & Tuck in 1970 to form Davidson Pearce Berry & Spottiswoode. In 1980 this became Davidson Pearce, who were taken over by Boase Massimi Pollitt (BMP) in 1988. This hs now been incorporated in to DDB London.
