The Solus Club

The Solus Club was founded in 1929 as a dining and discussion club for prominent figures connected with advertising. Members took it in turn to chair meetings, select a subject, usually something to do with advertising, and to run a discussion after dinner. The first dinner meetings were held at the Cafe Royal and then at the Carlton Hotel until WWII. The Hyde Park Hotel was a regular venue for many years but others include Claridge's, Grosvenor House and the Hurlingham Club. Although "the club's main purpose was always recognised as hedonistic" there was "a strong charitable streak (NABS has been supported from the beginning)." Although strictly a club for men only it has also periodically "met with its female counterpart (Women's Advertising Club of London) at joint meetings".

This organisation should not be confused with the Solus Advertising Association, later re-named The Outdoor Advertising Association.
