R G Lang

Lang ran his own business at 54 Ashmore Road, London W9 from 1930 until his death on 19 August 1974. In the course of this period he submitted over 3,000 ideas to various clients.

His initial training was at Dorlands and his first accepted design at the agency in 1923 was an ornamental border for a newspaper advertisement for furniture on behalf of W Jelks & Sons of Holloway. He later became advertising manager for John Laing & Sons, the construction company, and Henly's Motor Agents.

In 1944 Lang designed the badge for RAF No 278 Squadron that was reproduced, with many other badges, in slate in the restored floor of the Church of St Clement Danes consecrated in 1958. RG Lang 

He was a member of the Advertising Association and the Press Association.

Artist’s “roughs” and proposed and finished designs for a wide variety of clients including HP Sauce, Osram light bulbs, Henly’s Motor Agents, Pratt’s motor spirit, HMV, Marconi radios, Mackeson’s stout, Kodak etc. Lang’s original 1944 design for RAF 278 squadron is in this collection.
