HAT’s VT 1” machines on the road
Alistair Moir (Archive Collections Manager) and Tim Day, (Archive Technician) recently delivered three precious VT 1” machines for essential maintenance and repair work to
Rogcon Broadcast Engineering run by Roger Conway in Battersea.

These 1980s ‘Videocorders’ (model number: BVH-3100PS) were generously donated to HAT by ITV Anglia in 2012 when their Norwich TV studios were decommissioned.
HAT is now appealing to production houses for further donations of obsolete studio equipment.
Although now obsolete, this equipment has been given a new lease of life at HAT and has played a key role in facilitating the viewing and digital transfer of over 100 1” video tapes, including the BBC Washes Whiter research collection of TV and cinema commercials (1955-1980s). However, following minor faults developing in the machines, essential repairs are now vitally important.
As the equipment has become very rare, spare parts are hard to come by and the dwindling pool of specialist technicians able to carry out this type of work makes repairs expensive. A financial donation to HAT, no matter how small, will not only help to fund this essential maintenance and conservation work but will also enable HAT to continue rescuing footage from old video formats and converting it into digital. We would also be delighted to hear from anyone who might wish to donate studio video equipment surplus to requirements. Most urgently, DigiBeta and U-matic recorder/players and a Time Base Corrector are needed. Please email us at
enquiries@hatads.org.uk if you feel you can help.
