Iconic Norwich Brands - curated by HAT
Norwich’s prestige as a world-leading centre for brands will be celebrated in a city centre exhibition later this month.
Brandland, which brings together people and organisations working in and around branding in Norwich, will be hosting an exhibition at The Forum on 19 and 20 October.
It will showcase adverts, designs and graphics from almost 70 well-known brands from the region, from sports cars and food to castles and cathedrals.
Brandland is a membership organisation which flies the flag for Norwich and Norfolk’s brand heritage and continued innovation.
Prof Robert Jones, who leads the Brand Leadership course at the University of East Anglia, said: “It’s amazing that so many famous brands have their roots here – from Barclays, Aviva and Colmans to Lotus Cars and Norwich City Football Club.
“Adding in top creative agencies, university courses, the Nielsen Brandbank and Britain’s biggest brand archive, there is a unique offering here which this exhibition will celebrate.”
The exhibition is free to attend at The Forum in Norwich from 10am to 4pm on 19 October and from 10am to 2pm on 20 October.
Many of the items featured in the exhibition are held by the Norfolk-based History of Advertising Trust.
Director John Gordon-Saker said: “It’s been fascinating to research and curate this exhibition on behalf of Brandland. It’s a celebration of local brands and, just as our archive reflects social history through advertising, so too do the brands on show reflect Norwich’s history.”
Bobby Burrage, founder of Norwich design agency The Click, said: “This is a great way to show the creativity and innovation here.
“The region is home to many fantastic agencies and it’s important that we all shout to promote the talent we have so that we continue to grow and lead the way in branding.”
The “Iconic Norwich Brands” exhibition is a partnership between CIM, The Click, The Forum, History of Advertising Trust, Page Bros, UEA and Work in Norwich.
