History of Advertising Trust Launches New Friends’ Scheme

HAT Friends Launch at IPA Headquarters London

On 15th June at IPA headquarters in London, a gathering of ad industry practitioners past and present celebrated the launch of a new ‘Friends’ scheme for the History of Advertising Trust (HAT).

The scheme is a chance for supporters of the world’s largest advertising archive to donate as either a friend or patron and become part of the charity, involving themselves in new initiatives including an annual dinner.

New ideas include the opportunity to select iconic ads to be presented to users of HAT’s online catalogue through ‘Desert Islands Ads’ and ‘Adopt an Ad’.

HAT is also offering Patrons the chance to obtain naming rights to its six (soon to be seven) archive rooms and association with other products, services and collections.

The History of Advertising Trust Launches Friends Scheme

John Gordon-Saker, Executive Director of HAT, says: “We are blessed to have such a dedicated base of supporters for our work promoting advertising as a force for good through our education projects and dementia care resource. ‘Ad-Memoire’ is now being used in NHS hospitals across the country and it is thanks to donations that this is possible.”

The scheme was initiated by the naming of six Founding Patrons including ex-Chair Geoff Russell and five longstanding Trustees who recently stepped down from the board.

John Tylee, former Associate Editor of Campaign and one of the Founding Patrons, was instrumental in getting the scheme set up: “It was a pleasure to attend the ‘Friends’ launch as a Founding Patron and gave me great personal satisfaction to kick the scheme off to a successful start. I know that many are delighted by the opportunity this provides for an annual get together and a chance to keep supporting HAT.”

The scheme is being launched as HAT focuses on promoting agency legacy through its brand archaeology service and celebrating brand heritage with its archive buildings being extended to accommodate new collections.
