Ogilvy’s Jo Arden appointed as HAT’s Deputy Chair

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jo Arden as its new Deputy Chair and successor to James Best. As Chief Strategy Officer at Ogilvy UK, Arden will bring a wealth of experience, drive and influence to HAT as a vital ambassador for the organisation’s work preserving, celebrating and utilising advertising’s rich heritage.

Since joining the HAT Board in May 2023, Arden has brought a wealth of strategic experience to the Trust and has been instrumental in setting up the platform from which to launch the Brand Archaeology service, designed as a deep dive into a brand’s past to enable agencies to win more business. She has also been involved in developing the structure for the AdWomen exhibition, jointly curated by and being held at the Museum of Brands (8 November 2024-28 April 2025). As an executive committee member at WACL (Women in Advertising and Communication Leadership), the content is very close to her heart.

Jo Arden expressed her enthusiasm for HAT’s work, saying: “James is a tough act to follow but it’s an exciting time to step up, just as HAT is launching a range of new initiatives such as Brand Archaeology and a major exhibition with a shop window in London. The archive is an unmatched source of creativity and innovation, and I look forward to helping more brands and agencies realise the potential of entrusting their archives to HAT at a time when we’re all looking to optimise resources and maximise assets.

Tom Knox, Executive Partner at MullenLowe and HAT’s Chair of Trustees, relished the appointment, saying: “Anyone who’s worked with Jo, as I have, will know she’s a brilliant force of nature so I am thrilled that she’s accepted the invitation to be Deputy Chair. The work she has done in promoting effectiveness, gender equality and fighting for causes will be very useful as we raise awareness of HAT’s important role in the industry.
