Wall 57: New art feature celebrates Heinz history

Created by London art collective Acrylicize, Wall 57 is an historical showcase and exploration of the Heinz brand - a unique mix of art installation and architectural feature that stands in the reception area of the newly-opened Heinz European Innovation Centre in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The wall encompasses past and present to celebrate an unforgettable history, making use of everything from the tomato seed and ketchup bottle to the household fork and fridge, as well as carefully selected retro images from the Heinz Marketing Archive based here at the History of Advertising Trust.

James Burke, creative director and co-founder of Acrylicize, said:

“We called upon the History of Advertising Trust to help us locate key images from the Heinz archive for the installation, providing inspiration for the final piece. It was a rare and extraordinary opportunity to get under the skin of a brand that means something to us all. It’s been so much more than beans and ketchup, with the team exploring the archives and conveying the results through art.”

Upon closer inspection, it’s the depth of content that really catches the eye and engages the viewer. Drawing on Heinz's iconic branding and their unforgettable logo, Acrylicize have designed a wall layout using the famous Keystone logo shape, overlaid multiple times to create a unique network of 57 'windows'; each of these windows tells an interesting story about the brand through materials intrinsically linked to the heritage.

Each of these stories emanates from the portrait of founder, H J Heinz, which sits at the centre of the creation, made from thousands of Heinz tomato seeds, naturally.

The wall is a feast for the senses celebrating all that is innovative and unique about one of the most cherished brands in the world.
