The Carol Fisher Collection

This remarkable collection provides an insight into the career of one of the most successful women in the advertising and brand management industries. Through editorials, correspondence, photographs and artwork it documents Fisher’s meteoric rise from Bisto brand manager (RHM Foods) to the position of Chief Executive of the Central Office of Information with control of the largest consumer advertising budget in the UK. Donated to HAT in 2012 by Carol Fisher, HAT’s archive team is currently arranging and cataloguing this significant collection. The documentation and research will eventually be uploaded to the online catalogue, so please look out for further updates on progress.

Throughout her career Carol Fisher has held a number of high ranking senior positions, including two in the notoriously male dominated brewing industry. As Senior Marketing Manager at Grand Metropolitan Brewing (1982-1988) her achievements included the launch of Budweiser beer into the UK market and the creation of the company’s first new product development programme. Then in 1989 she made an historic move to Holsten Distributors (1989-1994) becoming the first female Marketing Director within the brewing industry. The role lead to huge success with numerous industry awards for innovative and creative media, advertising and new product initiatives. Memorable campaigns include the Holsten Pils anagram posters and commercials featuring Jeff Goldblum.

After a successful stint at CLT UK Radio Sales as Managing Director (1996-1998) Fisher was appointed to The Central Office of Information in 1999. As COI’s Chief Executive (1999-2002) she controlled a £300 million budget and masterminded the transformation of the agency into a world leader in government communication. Under her stewardship the COI achieved the highest ever levels of customer satisfaction and received many awards including Campaign’s ‘Advertiser of the Year’ in 2001. The same year Fisher herself was awarded the Publicity Club of London Cup for the year’s most outstanding contribution to the advertising and marketing industry.

On top of her full and successful work life Fisher has also held a number of prestigious extramural posts including President of Women’s Advertising Club of London (WACL), member of the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and member of the Ruling Council of The Incorporated Society of British Advertisers (ISBA).
