Admin History: The Stewart Hasted creative consultancy was founded as a partnership in 1967 by Stewart, a fomer copywriter with Lintas and Derek Chambers, an Art Director with the same agency. The firm was originally based in Mayfair and later moved to 65 Shelton Street, Covent Garden. SHA worked for many large agencies including CDP, Ogilvy & Mather, KMP, JWT London, McCann-Erikson, Young & Rubicam and Lintas. Accounts worked on in this capacity included: London Transport ('Fly the Tube' was their concept for Young & Rubicam), British Airways, Nigerian Airways, Kuwait Airlines, Seagrams Whiskey, Rootes Cars (Hillman Imp).
The consultancy also acquired a number of their own accounts e.g. Ideal Homes, Eley Kynoch, Smethursts (catering division of Bird's Eye), Allied Breweries (Joshua Tetley), Newsweek Magazine, Cavenham Foods. Dymo Labels was one of their early clients. The business included Meto price marking machines and Transplus lettering as well as Dymo brands. SHA became particularly skilled in photography, illustration and account handling and produced a number of corporate identity programmes e.g. SHA developed what was is believed to be the first comprehensive brand image handbook for Meto. SHA also designed packaging for Lintas including Flora, Outline Margarine, Persil and Lux.
Stewart Hasted was the author of 'Micro Manual' (1984) a computing handbook dedicated 'to all those who understand BASIC and work on CP/M or MS-DOS'. Stewart Hasted Associates were the designers of the Keyboard (Letraset) font in 1986.
