Admin History: The Allardyce Palmer agency was established in 1933 and became one of the largest advertising agencies in the UK. Initially many of their clients were in the industrial (mining and construction) business.
The agency was founded by Harry Ernest Palmer. It seems likely that his older sister Ellen Elizabeth (who had married Frank Allardyce) invested funds in Harry's new agency in return for naming rights and a regular monthly payment (information from 'The Allardyce Palmer Story' by Juliet Bailey).
In 1937-38 Allardyce Palmer were contracted by Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox to provide advertising material for the UK releases of their films.
They were also pioneers in the direct selling market.
Allardyce Palmer was taken over by C.J. Lyttle (Holdings) Ltd in 1969 and was merged with the Hampshire House subsidiary becoming known as Allardyce Hampshire from 1 Jan. 1970.
In 1975 Allardyce Hampshire merged with three KMP agencies, becoming Allardyce PLN. The agency was formally dissolved in October 1985 although it had been effectively defunct since 1977/8 (information from 'The Allardyce Palmer Story' by Juliet Bailey).
Contains material relating to the Baileys' association with the Publicity Club of London and also Bateman Artists which became a wholly owned creative subsidiary of Allardyce Palmer.
